I'm taking my test on the 24th May (UK), my insurance has been quoted to me at �1700.00 for the year. This is because I am male, and 20. So I must be a "racer boy"... I'm not sure what it's like in America. But the reason I get quoted that kind of insurance is because of drivers like you. It's very irresponsible of you to drive like that, and then brag about it. But I don't think it even happened.

They have plenty of patents. It wasn't until the 90s that the patent madness really started with software. Google is also leading the bidding for a large portfolio of mobile patents to protect them against Apple and Microsoft.

This time, they have more at stake (and wireless spectrum and patents are completely different things), but Google doesn't seem to have its heart in battles like this. They've patented their homepage and logo doodle... but those seem like jokes.
Also... I could have sworn major companies like Microsoft and Apple were trying to buy the Nortel patents under a unified entity at one point, but it fell through. Not sure how much of a rumor that was.

I predict that in 2015, iOS handset users will still have the highest customer satisfaction and that Apple will be walking away with the lion's share of the smartphone industry's profits.
Meaning there will be more grumpy non-iPhone users and more grumpy HTC/Nokia/Samsung/Motorola/LG shareholders.
Highly doubtful the other companies and react to growing customer needs faster then apple can. I think in 2015 windows phone 7 could have a good run. Depends on some factors. One of which is RIM. If RIM slips a little more its enterprise clients will jump right to WP 7. As an android lover I know it is not ready for Enterprise and iOS is seen to be more of a novalty smart phone by the greater tech world. I am not going to lie a Blackberry bold 9700 looks like the real deal when it comes to getting work done on your cell phone. Everything else looks like a toy in comparison.

I personally think that this sux. The Cingular store here is a huge joke. You could walk in there and no one would even notice that you were there. They will sit there in their cell phones and talk, laugh and carry on with there personal life and not worry about making a new customer. Also there customer service, every time I dealt with them, was just horrid. I was a BellSouth/Cingular customer for almost 10 years and had billing problems at least 2 months out of the year. I would call in and explain to them the problem, the supervisor would look over it and tell me I will have a credit on my next bill. Well sometimes the next bill was 3 months down the road, is that how you deal with your customers? I think not.

She asked me when I would like my credit applied, as soon as possible or on my next billing cycle. I told her as soon as possible, I had my credit applied to my account saturday.

My guess is that the Core 2 Duo MBs & MBPs will be a silent release who knows when.
The Showtime event will be for the iTunes Movie Store and an upgraded iPod with a slight design change (not the widescreen iPod). And possibly an Airport Express with video streaming, which would be sweet because I'd like to get another Airport Express anyway.

I recently had a chance to use one of these things. What a poor experience! Way over-animated and truncating large text is not the key to a good user experience (My favorite truncation is "Powerpoir" - is that the French version of Powerpoint?). After a bit you start to realize that they just don't get making an interface that is the size of the screen in hand (no pun intended). They still want a larger screen. It's a shame, because I wanted to like it, and I had heard good things from the pundits, but it clearly needs a really good once-over by someone who understands how to actually do something on a small screen.

The primary objection of studios to iTS (iTunes Store) is not rental vs. ownership. It is pissing off its physical channel "partners".
Steve Jobs has a history of pissing off physical channel partners. When the online Apple Store was vastly enlarged and promoted, the value added dealers lost premium CPU and software sales to Apple itself, since they have a price fixing contract. Consumers were no worse off ordering direct with free shipping than going down to a dealer if they did not need advise for the product purchase. In addition many asked questions of local dealers then purchased online thereafter.
This was further an issue when Apple added their own dealer network (stores) which were to a large degree competing with the long-standing dedicated dealer network as well as the mass merchandising dealers, who have been really hit and miss over the years. That has resulted in low mindshare as compared to Apple and indy dealers who people at least KNOW have the stuff if they are inclined toward those channels.
Studios rely on physical store dealers for "impulse sales" which has a different character than online. If you are in the online store software or website, it tries to cross-sell you. But retail impulse sales are targeting people who are not shopping for music at all. They just walk by and see it while shopping for something else. The most powerful example of this is Wal-Mart. So much so, it is Wal-Mart who is pressuring studios to shun iTS, and to a large degree it is actually working.

I'm calling it now. Apple's new "media center" device will be the iPod itself. I'm thinking that Apple will release a dock well suited for high definition video output to an HD tv.
People will purchase movies on iTunes, their movies will be transfered to their iPod upon updating and then, they can take their iPod to their TV (or anybody elses) for viewing movies on the large screen.
Remember.. I called it ;)

nice mock up. i've seen 4 like this after i had started making mine using the new ..ahem.. mini nano. but why, why have macrocrap apps on it?? the itunes viz is a nice touch tho. italk still my fav though.even though a phone with wings may become annoying at least it will come to you when it rings :D

Well after 8 pages I'm not sure my 2 cents counts for much, but after buying MY "test movie" last night (the brilliant Romy and Michele's High School Reunion), I have a few observations.
Video Quality: Definitely looks a little soft on my widescreen 34" Sony HDTV, but not really bothersome. I'd argue with those who say you can't tell the difference from a DVD, but then again if you just threw the digital file on, I doubt anyone would complain.
Download speed: I must be lucky, because I got the entire movie in 20 minutes flat on my Cable modem. I don't expect that to be the standard, though.
Audio quality: Granted, this was not Revenge of the Sith, but the audio was totally satisfactory. I listened on headphones to get a better sense and the sound was perfectly fine.
My initial reaction was similar to many, in that I couldnt' imagine why people would want a digital file with no physical media, no artwork, and digital rights management, but I've begun to feel this will gain the same appeal as digital audio has. When iTunes started selling music, I was the first to poo-pooh the concept. I am a rabid music collector and couldn't imagine paying for a product without the jewel case, liner notes, etc... now I buy most of my music from iTunes (most, not all) and I don't regret it. I realized i really didn't WANT to cart around cases and discs when I could just have it all digitally, ready to watch, on my device. It's too early to say the same will happen with movies (which, admittedly, are a different animal) but I can definitely see the possibility of lightning striking twice.
I'd have to say most people care almost nothing about a case or liner notes for DVDs since there really isn't anything of substance. Usually a synopsis and a chapter listing. With DVDs the good stuff is actually on the DVD, and hopefully the download is the same, with menus and different audio tracks, etc. If not, there is no point to downloading movies.
But geez, ditch the jewel cases and liner notes and grow up already. Unless you're not grown up, in which case I envy you. Enjoy!

Oh hell no. Apple are never going to release the Nike kit for HDD-based iPods. That would constitute an admission that running with the iPod is a normal activity and that any damage to the HDD from jolts and shock would need to be covered by Apple Care, ie A VERY BAD IDEA.

If they can put the menu logic into iTunes, all the "Airport Express A/V" would have do do is add an H264 decoder chip and video DAC to the current Airport Express, that would be a pretty cheap solution.
Just note that the H.264 decoder chip in the 5G iPod is what sets the resolution and bitrate limits for current iTMS videos to no more than 320x240 and under 768 kbps. Any more powerful chip would put out more heat and require a larger box to dissipate it. If they went with MPEG-4 they could already handle 2Mbps 480x480 files which is competitive with current digital satellite offerings.
